AS A WRITER

At eight years old I wrote and directed my own original play for my class to perform at the end of year show....naturally I cast myself as the lead! Needless to say, I am a passionate storyteller, I would say my niche is telling serious stories through comedy....like a true Irish woman.

I am currently a published writer having been commissioned by McSweeneys to write a piece, Growing Ire,  for a larger published collection entitled What's best for her, all over the World,  a response to the global abortion debate.

My first play full length play, The Last Rose of Summer was developed at Irish Arts Center, and my second play 29 was commissioned by Origin Theatre Company and was nominated for Best Play at Origin First Irish Awards.

During the pandemic I started writing for the screen and completed my first full length screenplay, The Mustache Ride, which is currently in development. The script has been shortlisted for The Tangerine Entertainment Fellowship Award and was also a finalist in the Stowe Story Labs Connemara Retreat for feature films, operated by Screen Ireland.

Most recently I have founded a development group for up and coming writers in NY, Scéal Nua (Irish for New Story) in collaboration with Irish Arts Center and Origin Theatre Company. I have also worked as a writing mentor for university students at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, and am currently developing my first pilot for television!

I'm massively inspired by the likes of Lisa McGee (Derry Girls) Mike Leigh (Abigail's Party) and Phoebe Waller Bridge (Flea Bag), writers that can seamlessly switch mediums to tell the stories that connect us to the human condition whilst making us laugh at the same time. Brian Friel, Tina Fey, David Hare and Mathew Weiner also deserve a mention. Yes my taste is eclectic!
